My Epilepsy Story

Busy Times

photo-6Life has been extremely busy over the past few weeks! Samuel has begun taking OT and PT at a new therapy center closer to our home. The therapists have been just wonderful with him. We look forward to continuing our progress with OT and PT. Samuel also went to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital to have a 24 hour EEG. I thought that was going to be a pretty easy 24 hours….Well the evening came and we prepared for him to go to sleep. He began getting sad because he was missing the rest of the family. We made our phone call home to talk to everyone and it was so sad listening to him talk. Samuel just kept telling them how much he missed them. I am fortunate that we are a close family and that we actually miss each other while we are apart. We received great news that the EEG was perfect!

Also, don’t forget the month of April is Autism Awareness Month. This weekend I will be attending a fundraiser for the Autism Society of Middle Tennessee. I am so excited to be able to support their organization not only because Samuel has autism, but so many children on the autism spectrum have epilepsy as well. Please make sure you check out their website and see how they are making a difference here in Tennessee.

So many exciting things have been taking place here at the My Epilepsy Story organization. The endless writing and rewriting of bylaws, budgets, etc to send into the IRS for our 501c3 status. This process has been exciting but daunting at times. The work will be so rewarding once we obtain our official nonprofit status.

In addition, I have been practicing for our upcoming podcast that will air in May. We are so blessed to have Andy McClung, of Am Perspectives, to be apart of this EXCITING new venture that we are undertaking. Keep your fingers crossed that everything falls into place like we hope it will! Andy has been so instrumental in getting our organization better coverage on the web. Thank you Andy for all your hard work and passion!

Lots of things are finishing and lots of things are beginning…….I will tell you what my friend Dr. Meador told me, ” Brandy, life is about taking chances. So take some chances!” It is so scary when we take chances but when we take chances we get to live. I found this quote this evening and I LOVE IT!!!!

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. ~ Mark Twain

In the midst of our busy lives, make sure you take some chances and live. I look forward to the next year, 6 years, 16 years, 26 years and beyond of taking chances.
