My Epilepsy Story

What is it like to be you?

This evening I watched the movie, The Help, and LOVED it!  It has the song from Mary J. Blige, The Living Proof, which I also love…. As I watched the movie I laughed, cried, laughed and of course cried some more.  One line from the movie stood out more than anything else….”No one had ever asked me, what it felt like to be me. Once I told the truth about that, I felt free.”

We get so caught up in our own lives that we don’t take the time to get to know others.  We don’t care or even think to care enough to ask others what is it like to be them or hear their story…..We choose to live on the surface with people and miss the wonderful yet sometimes heart wrenching stories that are all around us.  As I have been blessed to hear so many stories from so many wonderful people, I am still guilty of not listening to hear the new stories around me…..My heart has been so burdened with a story lately that all I can do is sit and listen as they share…..Part of the healing process is just getting to the part where you share your story.  You don’t have to share it with everyone but sharing it with someone starts that process.  As I listen to others share their stories, my heart breaks and yet it smiles as I see how far they have come……Our journey through life is not meant to be alone but rather to go through together.  When we become comfortable in our own skin and realize that we are worth being loved and heard, then we can move forward living a wonderful, happy life.  I will leave you with one more quote from the movie, “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.”………So my question for you this evening is, “What is it like to be you?”……..please share
