“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” ~Nelson Mandela
As I begin to think about Mother’s Day, I am reminded of all the wonderful women that have been brought into my life over the past few years. The women that I am reflecting on are women that live with epilepsy on a daily basis. We share a bond like no other…. We share the ups and downs of our daily struggles. At times, our struggles are about living a seizure-free day and other times they are the same struggles that other women without epilepsy face. They are the struggles of pregnancy, caring for a newborn, caring for young children, managing a home while working, spending enough time with our children, spending enough time with our husbands, going back to college, cleaning our homes, trying to lose that extra 10 pounds, feel unworthy, struggling with infertility and the list could go on…. Yet, our struggles are compounded by living with epilepsy.
I know it feels as though some of our goals and dreams are unattainable, even impossible. However, even in our moments of living the impossible, one day we will look back and see that “it’s done”. We survived the “impossible” and kept pushing forward to make our dreams and desires a reality. Women with epilepsy in the past have not had a strong group of women to rely upon to show us that we can have the “impossible”. So today, I want to take a moment to share some photos with you of women living with epilepsy that have overcome many things and made the impossible a reality! Today is a day to stand together with other women living with epilepsy from every corner of the world that are pregnant or have had a baby or long to have a child. Today we celebrate you on this Mother’s Day! For the women that are struggling with infertility, I want to encourage you that you are not alone. We are here for you as well and we understand your longing to have a baby. Today we celebrate you as well! We are here to walk this road with you…. I want to personally thank my husband, Rob, for supporting and encouraging me each day as well as the other husbands out there that encourage their wives as well. Many great things are ahead for women living with epilepsy as we are starting new conversations and a new movement that our voices matter. I look forward to walking on this exciting journey for the next year, 6 years, 16 years, 26 years and beyond with you. Happy Mother’s Day to each of you!!!!!!
Much Love,
Brandy
